Once you've submitted your application, someone will contact you within 48 hours.  We will then schedule a face-to-face meeting with you
so that we may tell you a little more about our group and give you further details about what it means to volunteer with us.  We hope to hear
from you soon!

  • Foster: Join us and be a part of the cause!  The more foster parents we have the more kittens we can save.  Here are just a few
    benefits of fostering:

1. Rewarding: it's indescribable the feeling that you get raising a kitten who was
just a tiny ball of fur to the point of adoption.
2. Love: most people forget that the kittens view you as their Mom/Dad.  Now
what could be more rewarding?
3. Temporary: maybe you have a spouse who doesn't want the responsibility of
another cat.  Maybe you travel off and on throughout the year and can't
have a pet.  Fostering is a great way to experience "having a pet" without
actually "having a pet".
4. Kittenhood: for cat owners out there, you can experience again the joys of
kittens without actually having to adopt!
5. Take a quick peek at the "
Ten Ways to Be a Successful Foster Parent"
6. Not sure if you're quite ready to foster?  Take a look at
"Are you Ready to be a Foster Parent?"
7. Here's our foster policies in case you'd like to learn more.  At the bottom of that page you'll also find a link to our foster parent application.

Please note: As a foster parent you may be required to provide transportation to and from adoption events and will be required to
ensure that the kittens in your care go to the recommend vaccination and examination appointments as set forth by the foster
coordinator.

  • Adoption Counseling: Help orphaned kittens find homes!  Sure they’ve had a good life being raised by caring foster parents but at
some point, they’re ready to leave the “nest” and strike out on their own.  It’s up to the adoption counselor though to help them find
    that forever home.

As an adoption counselor, you will explain our requirements to potential adopters, guide them through the application process, supervise
them as they get acquainted with the kittens of their choice, and finalize the adoption with the end result being able to watch the kitten ride
off with their new parents!  A truly rewarding experience.

  • Kitten/cat care – we’ll instruct you on the Sunshine Rescue Group’s recommended guidelines for kitten care.  Not experienced with
caring for kittens?  No problem, we’ll provide training!
  • Communication – a great opportunity to brush up on your communication skills as you’ll need them when counseling potential
adopters.  And on occasion, yes, you will have to deftly turn down potential adopters who aren't quite ready for a kitten.
  • Critical thinking – you’ll have to play Sherlock Holmes as you carefully look over applications and interview potential adopters to
make sure that the kitten they’re interested in is right for them.
  • Be an Ambassador - you're representing the Sunshine Rescue Group!
  • Teamwork – we like to pair adoption counselors up so it’s a great way to make new friends while at the same time helping kittens
    find homes.

Commitment:
  • We ask for a 6 month commitment
  • We ask for at least 4 hours per month
  • During initial training, we require 8 hours per month until your trainers feel you are ready to become an official adoption counselor
  • You tell us!: Might you have a skill that you'd like to use to help the kittens?  We're a small group who is hoping to grow so we're
going to need assistance in a variety of areas such as marketing, public relations, and a bunch of areas I'm sure we haven't even
thought of!  So contact us - you might have that special skill or talent that could save the lives of countless kittens.
  • Transport: We're looking for people who can transport cages and on occasion kittens to and from adoption outreach events.
Volunteers are not required to stay during the event but are obviously needed to promptly show up at the beginning and the ending
    of events.
